Jim Tucker
This work is for people who grew up drawn to the art they saw in the street, on TV, in the newspaper, in their favorite books and never understood why any of that was held in a different light to what hung in museums. People with sharp eyes and a low tolerance for pretension. Every place has a story it's been telling for a long time, through its symbols, icons, and the characters written into its history. My work is built on those familiar symbols, reinterpreted but rooted. My woodcuts, drawings, and murals are a specific response to the icons a place actually cares about, and has maybe forgotten. The work is hand-made and immediate. It doesn't explain itself. It just wants to make you smile. But if you've ever felt like a place was a puzzle worth solving, or worth honoring, you'll recognize what's happening here.
