Sawdust: Walnut Hills was a residency with ArtWorks Cincinnati where Jim Tucker led seven gallery fellows through his art-making process.
Under Jim's mentorship, fellows learned basic woodworking, spray painting, and graphic arts skills to create their own unique works.
Jim's contributions to the show were four installation pieces and three unique prints inspired by the Walnut Hills community.
Since moving to Cincinnati in 2021, Walnut Hills has had an impact on Jim's life. The first project he worked on in the city was on AJ Sunami's mural a few blocks south of the V2 gallery.
The experience of a long, hot, joyous summer in Walnut Hills is much of the inspiration for Jim's personal work in the show as he hopes to celebrate the people of Walnut Hills by juxtaposing historical images against contemporary characters and unifying them through Jim's unique situational automatic painting.
Gallery fellows were:
Aminata Thiam, MK Hensley, Chay Mills, Will Boone-Hall, Henry Hittle,
Julia Patterson, and Ellie Rockford.
A special thanks to ArtWorks Cincinnati for the opportunity to collaborate on such a special exhibition and to Jim's collaborators on the project, Gary Dangel, Daniel Iroh, Frank Young, and Cryptogram.
The show is on view until May 9th, 2024. Private viewings are available by appointment; please email karla@artworkscincinnati.org & jimtuckerstudio@gmail.com for help.
